The judiciary branch has unified its opinion on the abuses of Koreans' human rights during the 1910-45 Japanese occupation.
한국 사법부는 1910-1945년 일본 식민지 통치 시절 한국인 인권 학대에 대한 의견을 통합했다.

On Thursday, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the Japanese government is responsible for compensating former victims of sex slavery forced to work in its military brothels during World War II.
목요일 서울고등법원은 제2차 세계대전 동안 군인을 위한 사창가에서 강제로 일하게 되었던 전 위안부 피해자에 대한 배상 책임이 일본 정부에 있다고 판결했다.

The appellate court's verdict overturned a lower court's ruling made two and a half years ago.
항소심 판결이 2년 반 전에 나왔던 1심 각하 판결을 뒤집었다.

In April 2021, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the suit filed by 16 plaintiffs, citing "sovereign immunity." However, the appeals court recognized Korea's jurisdiction over the Japanese government, citing customary international laws.
2021년 4월 서울중앙지법은 16명이 낸 소송을 각하하며 ‘국가면제'를 이유로 들었다. 하지만 항소심 재판부는 국제관습법을 인용하며 일본 정부에 대한 대한민국 법원의 재판권을 인정했다.

"It is reasonable to consider that there is a common international law that does not recognize state immunity for an illegal act … regardless of whether it was a sovereign act," it said. The court noted it examined similar cases in foreign countries and new international trends.
항소심 재판부는 "불법행위에 대해 국가면제를 인정하지 않는 내용의 국제 관습법이 존재한다고 보는 게 타당하다...영토 내에서 일어난 일이라도 말이다"라고 전했다. 재판부는 해외 유사 사례와 최근 국제법 흐름을 검토했다고 강조했다.

That was a forward-looking ruling with historical and legal significance.
해당 판결은 역사적, 법적 중요성을 가지는 진보적인 판결이었다.
