The 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games kicked off Friday with an opening ceremony taking place in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.

As the first winter sporting event for youngsters ever held in Asia, the Youth Olympics will see 1,802 athletes from 78 countries competing in 15 events from ski jumping and luge to figure skating.

The opening ceremony featured spectacular performances focusing on the theme of youth.

The Olympics will run until Feb. 1.
