Pianist Lim Yun-chan's overseas concerts have been canceled for two weeks due to a strain in his hand.

The piano star's overseas agency IMG Artists said on its website Saturday Lim needs to rest his hand following treatment from his doctor and physical therapist. The agency said Lim's concerts from March 27 to April 10 have been canceled.

"He must withdraw from his forthcoming concerts under his doctor's orders. This will allow the injury time to heal and to protect against future issues," the company said.

Canceled concerts include his performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London on Wednesday, the Peralada Festival in Spain on Saturday, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig on April 6, Wigmore Hall in London on April 8 and Fondazione La Societa dei Concerti in Milan on April 10.

Lim wrote on his Instagram, Saturday, "Performing and sharing music is my great joy, and I am heartbroken that I am unable to give these concerts. I am so sorry for any disappointment this causes. I am working with doctors for a quick recovery and to prevent a similar problem in the future."

Offering his apologies, he added, "I look forward to returning to play with these incredible orchestras and concert and recital halls in the near future."

A rising star in the world of classical music, Lim, 20, achieved international recognition in 2022 by becoming the youngest person ever to win the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at the age of 18. Since then, he has been actively performing around the world. In February, he had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, a dream stage for many musicians.

His first album "Chopin Etudes," under the Decca Classics record label, is set to be released on April 19. Lim is scheduled to hold a nationwide recital tour in Korea in June.
