Grand Hyatt Seoul's pastry team has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for its contribution to the development of Korea's rice industry, according to the hotel, Wednesday.

The pastry team is responsible for crafting desserts served at the hotel's five restaurants, including the luxury bakery, The Deli.

The ministry presents the award annually to individuals or organizations that contribute significantly to the growth and development of the food and restaurant industries.

The 2023 award went to the hotel's pastry team in recognition of its efforts to support the market expansion of the domestic rice industry and the processed food industry using the grain. This recognition came after the team offered four types of bread made from a Korean traditional rice variety to hotel guests in August of the previous year.

The rice variety, called "Garu," is much softer than others and is therefore a great ingredient to make bread, according to an official at the hotel.

"I always go around famous bakeries across the country with my team members and exchange opinions to offer new and trendy types of bread to satisfy both the eyes and taste buds of our guests," Lee Jae-jin, the head of the team, said.

"I believe the award carries special meaning as it proves there are many people who love Grand Hyatt Seoul. We will continue to make efforts to provide guests with the best bakery experience."
