Project girl band Kep1er, formed via the 2021 audition show "Girls Planet 999," is in talks to extend its group activities, its agencies WakeOne and Swing Entertainment said.

"We are currently having discussions with the members and their agencies over the extension of Kep1er's musical activities," a company official said Thursday, shortly after a media outlet reported that the group would disband in July as planned.

"Kep1er is currently gearing up for a new album," the official added. "So, please support the band."

Kep1er consists of the nine winners from "Girls Planet 999" — Yujin, Mashiro, Xiaoting, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, Youngeun and Yeseo.

It was initially set to dissolve after being active for two and a half years, but there has been a growing call for its contract renewal as the nonet is one of the most sought-after girl groups today.

However, it's unclear whether Kep1er will be able to continue its musical journey after July, given that most project groups created through audition shows, such as I.O.I, Wanna One and IZ*ONE from the "Produce 101" series, failed to extend their contracts.

This was mainly because it was difficult for different agencies to reach a consensus over the groups' future activities.

Kep1er arrived on the K-pop scene with the debut album, "First Impact," selling some 200,000 copies during the first week of its release.

It plans to put out its first full-length album, "Kep1going" in Japan on May 8. It will be led by the title track "Straight Line."
