Seoul Metro will provide two additional rides during the morning and evening rush hours for crowd control on lines 4 and 7 starting Wednesday, the subway operator announced Monday.

Line 4 will have two additional rides in the morning rush hour, while Line 7 will add two more for evening commuters.

According to the company, the most crowded portion of Line 4 is between Sungshin Women's University Station and Hansung University Station between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

The congestion rate in this section reaches up to 150.1 percent, which Seoul Metro expects could be lowered to 135.1 percent with the additional service.

As for Line 7, its most crowded portion is between Gasan Digital Complex Station and Cheolsan Station between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The maximum congestion rate in this part reaches 157 percent. The subway operator noted it could be lowered down to 134.6 percent with the extra rides.

Meanwhile, Seoul Metro plans to further add service on lines 4 and 7 to control the congestion rates to be brought under 150 percent at all times.

Also, the company also plans to introduce artificial intelligence technology to measure congestion rate and apply it to crowd control.
