A woman was killed and another injured after an SUV overturned and fell into a ditch on Jeju Island early Tuesday.
According to Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, the accident occurred at around 1:17 a.m. in Seogwipo, a city in the southern part of Jeju, killing the 21-year-old driver.
The first emergency call that reached rescue workers came from an Apple iPhone inside the vehicle. The rescue team responded to an automatic call from the phone, which was equipped with a car crash detection feature.
While they were searching for the vehicle, they received another call minutes later from the surviving passenger, 23, who helped them pin down the location.
She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she has been receiving treatment for her injuries.
Police are now looking into how the accident happened.
