The infamous child rapist Cho Doo-soon has been released from prison after spending three months behind bars for breaking a court order related to his home confinement protocol.

Cho, 71, was released Wednesday from Suwon Detention Center and returned to his home in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, after completing his sentence, which was issued after he violated his night curfew, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2023.

Cho cited his argument with his wife as the reason for a 40-minute violation of his curfew. However, a district court sent him back to prison for the offense.

The release of Cho, who spent 12 years in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl in 2008, prompted police to intensify security measures near his residential building in Wa-dong, Danwon District, Ansan, where police checkpoints and dozens of security cameras have been installed to ensure the safety of all residents there.

The city government also plans to resume the operation of a special patrol group in the area to try to relieve anxiety among the residents.
