First lady Kim Keon Hee visited the site of a deadly car crash near Seoul City Hall on Wednesday evening, according to people at the scene.

A few images spreading across social platforms showed Kim waiting at traffic lights to cross over to the site and leaving flowers in memory of those who died in Monday's fatal traffic accident. The presidential office later confirmed that Kim had visited the site.

Nine people were killed and seven injured when a car hit pedestrians waiting at a traffic light at an intersection near Seoul City Hall in central Seoul on Monday night, as it drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with two other cars before hitting the pedestrians.

The driver, in his late 60s, spoke of a sudden unintended acceleration and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police, who vowed a swift probe into the car crash.

Of the nine who died, two were Seoul Metropolitan Government employees, four were employees at a nearby bank and three were employees of a company doing outsourced work from hospitals.

As the police investigation continues, mourners have laid white flowers, beverages and condolence messages at the site in memory of those who lost their lives in the deadly car crash.
