French Ambassador to Korea Philippe Bertoux officially launched the commemorative coins for the 2024 Paris Olympics in a special event held at the French Embassy in Seoul, Thursday.

"I am delighted to introduce the official commemorative coin of the Paris Olympics with all of you today," Bertoux said.

The ambassador highlighted the significance of the event's location, noting, "Is there a better place to hold the official launch event for the Olympic commemorative coins than here? I believe this is the perfect location because the French Embassy in Korea symbolizes the friendship and historical ties between Korea and France."

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be held at France's key landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the Seine River. France's Monnaie de Paris has released commemorative coins featuring these historic sites, showcasing artistic designs that combine French cultural heritage with sports. The Paris Olympic commemorative coins were developed by Poongsan Hwadong.

The ambassador underscored the significance of the 2024 Paris Olympics for France, noting that it is the first time in 100 years that France has secured the Olympics.

"Today marks the official launch of the commemorative coins for the Paris 2024 Olympics," he said. "France has secured the Olympics for the first time in 100 years, and we are making every effort to prepare the most beautiful and magnificent Olympics."

Bertoux highlighted the enthusiasm and pride of the French people as they prepare for the Olympics.

"There are less than 10 days left until the Olympics. France is extremely proud and feels an immense responsibility as we celebrate this grand sporting festival with the world," he said. "We hope the entire country and the world will join us in commemorating the Olympics."

He also mentioned the innovative aspects of the 2024 Paris Olympics, including the first-ever outdoor opening ceremony.

"Notably, the opening ceremony on July 26 will be the first in the history of the modern Olympics to be held outdoors," Bertoux said. "All delegations will enter with a water parade, making this Paris Olympics both historic and innovative."

The ambassador concluded his speech by expressing his hopes for exceptional performances and world records during the games.

"Above all, I hope we will witness many Olympic world records being broken with excellent performances," he said. "As the French ambassador to Korea, I especially hope that Korea and France will win the most medals."
