Naver Webtoon celebrated the 10th anniversary of its global expansion with an offline event in Taiwan last weekend, gathering local creators, partners and fans altogether. The online comics provider said Monday that it will also hold a similar event in the United States this month.

On Saturday and Sunday in Taipei, Naver Webtoon held a 10th anniversary celebration for Line Webtoon, its overseas service platform, featuring five popular webtoon creators from Korea and Taiwan.

According to data from Data.ai, a mobile app market analysis platform, Line Webtoon ranked first in cumulative sales and monthly active users among webtoon platforms in Taiwan for the first half of this year.

Notably, Kim Na-young, whose pen name is Yaongyi, creator of the popular webtoon "True Beauty" with over 6.4 billion global views, and Jeon Seon-wook, known for the webtoon "Free Draw" which gained great popularity in Taiwan, attended the event.

"It's been 10 years since I debuted as a webtoon creator. When I started, I never thought I could make money drawing webtoons, but thanks to Naver Webtoon's revenue sharing system, I've been able to earn an unimaginable income in my life. I'm greatly honored and grateful to meet global fans like this," Jeon told fans at the event.

Line Webtoon began its Chinese language service in July 2014. Naver Webtoon also has nurtured amateur creators residing outside the Chinese-speaking region such as Spain and Malaysia, as it has enabled creators to showcase their works through the amateur platform Webtoon Canvas.

Naver Webtoon said that local works discovered by Line Webtoon are also achieving success in secondary creative businesses such as video adaptations and games.

Mlizard, creator of "If I hadn't met," the first Taiwanese original work to have both TV series and movie rights sold, shared her experiences participating in various competitions.

"Line Webtoon's Canvas, competitions and webtoon artist development programs are providing many opportunities for Taiwanese creators dreaming of becoming webtoon artists," Mlizard said.

Naver Webtoon added its English service Webtoon will participate in the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) from July 25 to 28, holding an event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its global expansion.
