K-pop boy group DRIPPIN is ready to heat up the summer charts with its new single "Weekend," about four months after it hit its own career-best with the fourth single "Beautiful MAZE," which sold over 130,000 copies in the first week of its release this April.

The group's fifth single, which is to be released on Monday at 6 p.m., consists of three tracks — the title track of the same name, "Fly High" and "TIME."

Bursting with electric guitar riffs, groovy bass and a catchy chorus, the electropop song "Weekend" promises a refreshing escape into summer, capturing the sense of healing and freedom of breaking away from everyday life.

The six-piece act — consisting of Cha Jun-ho, Lee Hyeop, Kim Dong-yun, Kim Min-seo, Hwang Yun-seong and Joo Chang-uk — shared the recollections of working on this album and the music video, featuring the group's sun-drenched vacation in a rural area, was their own healing journey.

"I would describe (the album) as healing. As shown in this music video, we really tried hard to capture our genuine, down-to-earth selves," Cha said during a recent interview with The Korea Times at a cafe in Mapo District, Seoul.

"So (when filming), rather than having a detailed direction for acting, we tried to show ourselves naturally and comfortably enjoying our time in Uljin County (where we filmed the video). We freely played at the beach, just running around together. The video captures our genuine happiness and the atmosphere we felt that day without any pretense. So I think viewers will be able to share these same emotions with us through the video."

Lee added he hopes the song can resonate with the young people his age.

"I think we've been releasing many songs that people of our age can relate to, allowing us to be a sort of friend figure to them. Our previous work, 'Beautiful MAZE,' was a song that expressed feelings of love among people in their 20s. This time, it's a song that our peers can relate to when they go on vacation, capturing naturalness and youth," Lee said.

"I think we're gradually becoming and learning to be a group that can empathize and communicate with more audiences, and we're starting to grasp the concept to help doing that."

The members noted they put a lot of thought into portraying the down-to-earth look in their music video.

"When filming the music video, instead of focusing on what to add to make us look fancier like we have done in previous works, this time we focused more on what we would actually wear if we were really going on a trip," Kim said.

"We paid more attention to simplifying things. We gradually took out things and tailored our looks to suit each member's individual character."

Cha added, "We tried to make everything to be as close as possible to our everyday appearance. We wanted outfits that people our age would wear in real life to go on trips or hang out with friends."

The group is welcoming its fourth anniversary in October. The members expressed excitement and hope to further develop their place in the K-pop scene.

"It made me realize that we've been working together for quite a long time. Not just as a job or work, but in my life, these people have been with me for a significant amount of time. I've recently thought a lot about how lucky I am to have gained such great friends, colleagues and family members, and I feel very grateful for that," Cha said.

"As for our growth as a team, we've tried a lot of different concepts since our debut album. I think we're now at a stage where we're gradually finding our identity and the kind of music that suits us best. Compared to when we first debuted, it feels like we've learned to find and wear the clothes that fit us best."
