A Korean tourist was stabbed and injured during a robbery by two assailants in Angeles City, a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, adding to the rising incidents of violent attacks against Korean visitors in the area.

According to the Korean Embassy in the Philippines, a Korean man in his 40s was attacked on Saturday by two motorcycle-riding thieves near Koreatown of Angeles City, Pampanga, on Luzon Island. The assailants stabbed the man and stole his bag before fleeing the scene.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is stable, and his life is not in danger. He is now preparing to return to Korea.

Angeles, the site of the recent attack, is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, but safety concerns have been rising due to a spate of violent incidents targeting Korean nationals.

In late May, a Korean man in his 60s was severely injured in a pickpocketing incident in Angeles and died approximately 10 days later.

In November last year, a Korean man in his 50s was stabbed by two assailants who stole his wallet before running away in downtown Angeles.

Just two months earlier, in September, a gunman stormed a Korean restaurant in the city, stealing cash and valuables before escaping.

In response to the recent surge in violent crimes in Angeles City, the Korean Embassy has issued a safety advisory urging Korean nationals in the area to be more cautious. The embassy emphasized the persistent threat of violent crimes involving deadly weapons alongside petty crimes like pickpocketing.

The advisory recommends refraining from going out at night as much as possible, avoiding deserted alleys and sticking to main roads when going outside. The embassy also recommended using taxis or ride-sharing services like Grab instead of walking, even for short distances.

Additionally, the embassy cautioned against resisting armed robbers, noting that there have been instances where individuals suffered serious harm due to reckless resistance.

Korean nationals are also encouraged to maintain positive relationships with locals, including drivers, housekeepers and employees, to avoid conflicts. The advisory further emphasized the importance of respecting local laws, culture and customs and urged vigilance in interactions and behavior.
