Two Korean climbers who went missing in the Alps have been found dead, three days after they were reported missing, Korean embassy officials in France said Tuesday.

Rescue officials discovered the bodies, identified as a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s, on a slope about 100 meters from the Mont Blanc summit, at around 1:15 p.m., according to the embassy.

The two climbers were among the seven members with a mountaineering club that visited Chamonix-Mont-Blanc last week.

The team reported four of the members missing on Saturday after they lost contact with them. Two of the four people were rescued by a helicopter the next day, at an altitude of 4,100 meters.

The rescued climbers said they were unable to descend due to worsening weather.

The Korean Embassy said earlier they dispatched a consular official as soon as they received the report on the missing nationals, and are working with local authorities for rescue operations.

The embassy said it has also informed the family members of the deceased of the body discovery and plans to provide necessary assistance. (Yonhap)
