KT, a major Korean telecommunications company, said Friday it has conducted a major personnel reshuffle aimed at strengthening its capacity in artificial intelligence (AI) and media businesses.
The company has decided to integrate its enterprise division in charge of its B2B business, including cloud and platform, and its strategy division in charge of AI as part of efforts to foster growth as what it is calling an AICT (Artificial Intelligence and Information and Communications Technology) company, according to its officials.
Earlier this year, KT announced its vision to transform into an AICT company, which combines its telecommunications expertise with AI technology, from a traditional mobile carrier.
KT will also newly create a media business division to enhance its content business.
The expanded strategy consulting division will take charge of discovering new AI transformation projects and conducting collaborative projects with Microsoft.
KT has formed a five-year AI partnership with the U.S. tech giant aimed at jointly advancing AI technologies, including developing new AI models tailored to Korean language and culture, as well as new cloud services catering to the needs of Korean corporate customers.
"Going forward, KT will continue to take more responsibility to stably operate and advance its network, and lead the B2B IT market through global cooperation," KT CEO Kim Young-shub said in a press release. (Yonhap)
