The first funeral for the victims of the fatal Jeju Air plane crash was held Thursday, five days after the disaster at Muan International Airport in southwestern Korea claimed the lives of 179 people.

The first funeral for the victim, whose identity was withheld, occurred at a funeral parlor in Gwangju, about 270 kilometers south of Seoul, Thursday morning after the person's body, recovered in relatively good condition, was handed over to the bereaved family Monday.

On Thursday afternoon, the funeral ceremony for a 45-year-old Thai victim who boarded the ill-fated plane after a hometown visit is also set to be held.

So far, the bodies of 21 victims, including the two, have been returned to their families, and funeral arrangements are currently in progress for nine of them.

The disaster countermeasures authorities said Wednesday they have confirmed the identities of all the deceased. (Yonhap)
