SK to highlight AI innovations, global collaboration at Las Vegas industry show
By Nam Hyun-woo

LAS VEGAS – Korea's leading tech companies will showcase a future home environment powered by artificial intelligence (AI) agents as their main feature at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. These AI-powered smart homes will offer features like optimized energy use, automated cleaning, health monitoring, and even immersive art experiences.

Samsung said, Monday (local time), that it will showcase its home AI solutions at the event, which will take place from Tuesday to Friday. For the exhibition, the tech giant has set up a 3,368-square-meter booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center, making it the largest booth among the companies participating in the world's biggest tech show.

The booth will showcase Samsung's latest electronic appliances, all integrated with the company's newest Bixby AI technologies and the SmartThings Internet of Things (IoT) platform. This will create a fully connected ecosystem throughout the home. Through this, Samsung aims to present more personalized AI experiences tailored to different situations.

During the show, Samsung will showcase five themes for AI homes that reflect various user demands.

Under the "Efficient Home" theme, Samsung will showcase energy-saving technologies and products, with SmartThings monitoring and comparing the home's current energy efficiency to past data. To enhance user convenience, the company will introduce the Bespoke AI Washer & Dryer Combo, which completes laundry without the need to transfer clothes between machines, and the Bespoke AI Steam Robot Vacuum Cleaner, capable of automatically mopping the floor.

As part of the "Healthcare Home" theme, Samsung will highlight personalized health assistance through its SmartThings and Samsung Health systems. Using spatial AI-powered ambient sensing technology, these systems monitor and analyze users' device usage patterns, physical activity, and even ambient sounds. This data enables the delivery of tailored information and services for various situations, such as sleep and workouts.

In the "Caregiving Home" theme, the SmartThings system monitors potential accidents at home and alerts family members through smartphones, TVs, and other connected devices. Under the "Productive Home" theme, users can experience Samsung's latest laptops, including the Galaxy Book 5 Pro and Galaxy Book 5 360, both powered by the AI-optimized Intel Core Ultra Series Pro 2 processor.

The "New Experience Home" theme will introduce a concept of displaying works from world-renowned artists on TVs, in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This will allow users to enjoy famous artworks from the comfort of their own homes.

To bring these concepts to life, Samsung introduced its new vision, "Screens Everywhere," showcasing a variety of new screen-embedded appliance models for 2025.

In addition to the Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator, which is equipped with a 32-inch screen, the company also introduced a Bespoke refrigerator with a 9-inch screen. Furthermore, separate Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer units were unveiled, each featuring a 7-inch screen.

The latest examples of SmartThings Pro, a business-to-business (B2B) application of the SmartThings platform, attracted considerable attention, showcasing its potential for commercial use and advanced integrations.

Samsung has been promoting SmartThings Pro as a scalable IoT and AI solution for businesses. The system automatically manages various electronic appliances in offices, shops, hotels, and restaurants, adjusting to the operating logic defined by the business operator.

At CES 2025, SmartThings Pro expanded its capabilities to include vehicles in collaboration with Hyundai Motor. This integration allows users to control their cars remotely through home appliances, while also enabling drivers to manage home devices from their cars.

SmartThings Pro was also applied to Samsung Heavy Industries' newly developed autonomous research ship, the Shift-Auto, enabling remote control of the vessel's equipment.

‘Affectionate intelligence'

LG Electronics will also bring its vision for an AI-powered home to life under the theme of affectionate intelligence at its 2,044-square-meter booth.

The company also designed its booth to offer interactive demonstrations of an AI-powered home, featuring ThingQ On, a generative AI-embedded home hub that connects IoT devices throughout the home.

Using sensors installed throughout the home, the AI home hub analyzes users' health data, including heart rate, breathing, and coughing patterns. Based on this analysis, it can automatically adjust the indoor temperature and humidity for optimal comfort.

The company will also showcase the world's first wireless transparent OLED TV, the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV, developed in collaboration with the Italian luxury furniture brand Kartell.

LG will also present a range of mobility technologies powered by AI, highlighting their capabilities to improve business operations and drive innovation.

Visitors can explore the in-cabin sensing solution, which monitors both the driver and the vehicle's interior. It provides personalized assistance by analyzing the driver's gaze, facial expressions, signs of drowsiness, and real-time heart rate.

At LG Labs, the company will showcase concept products such as the High-Up Wine Cellar, which allows users to adjust the angle of wine storage, the Sweevel air purifier, which combines a 360-degree speaker with a wireless charging function, and the Pure Duet coffee machine, which brews coffee using filtered water and two types of capsules for blending.

Strengthening partnerships

SK Group will showcase its innovative AI technologies while its top executives will be looking to strengthen AI partnerships with leading global companies.

At the exhibition, four affiliates — SK hynix, SK Telecom, SKC and SK Enmove — will operate a joint exhibition booth with the theme "Innovative AI, Sustainable Tomorrow."

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, along with top executives of major affiliates such as SK hynix President Kwak No-jung, SK Telecom President Yoo Young-sang, and SK Networks President Choi Sung-hwan, plan to attend the event to explore the latest trends in cutting-edge AI technology. They will also meet with leading global companies to strengthen collaboration in building a robust AI ecosystem.

SK plans to present its business vision of creating a sustainable future and advancing humanity through various AI innovations. Executives will highlight the development of services and technologies aimed at delivering a comprehensive AI Total Solution.

At the SK AI Summit 2024 in November, Chey stated, "SK is a rare business in the world that can do everything from semiconductors to energy, data center construction and operation, and service development." He shared a vision of "accelerating global AI innovation by bundling various solutions from SK and its partners to overcome AI bottlenecks and bring better AI to our lives more quickly."

To make its vision for AI business more tangible, SK's booth will be divided into three main areas: AI Data Center (DC), AI Services, and AI Ecosystem. The exhibits will focus on interactive demonstrations, allowing visitors to experience a wide range of AI services firsthand.

"The goal of the CES exhibition is to show how AI technology is entering our daily lives with limitless growth potential. With collaboration essential for AI innovation, SK will continue to look for opportunities to strengthen global partnerships in AI," an SK official said.
