Shin Yu-bin, 20, a table tennis star and bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, donated 100 million won ($68,800) to help support children battling illness.
Her agency, Management GNS, said on Wednesday that Shin presented her endowment to the Catholic University of Korea St. Vincent's Hospital in Suwon two days ago to help young patients facing financial hardships.
Shin came up with the idea to donate after being offered the opportunity to become a brand ambassador for YS Cosmetics, a company based in Suwon. When signing the contract, she decided to donate a portion of her modeling fee to support the social cause.
This is the second time the Suwon native has made a donation to the hospital. In December 2022, Shin donated 10 million won to support children battling illness.
She has also donated to various other organizations, including the Korea Elementary School Table Tennis Federation, Ajou University Hospital, World Vision Korea and Community Chest of Korea.
"I was happy and proud when I heard from St. Vincent's Hospital that my previous donation money was put to good use and that the children had regained their health," Shin said in a statement. "I hope that this donation will help even more children restore their health and bring back their smiles."
