Liberia's government has announced on Thursday (KST) that it is closing down all schools across the country and put some communities under quarantine to stop the spread of Ebola.
The number of people killed by the virus in West Africa has now reached 672, making it the worst Ebloa outbreak ever since its discovery in 1976, according to new United Nations figures. About 100 doctors who were doing relief work in the region contracted the virus and about half of them lost their lives.
When infected with Ebola, the person will experience symptoms such as fevers, headaches and throat and muscle pains as quickly as within two days, although in some cases symptoms don't appear until after three weeks.
Ebola kills up to 90 percent of those infected, but patients have a better chance of survival if they receive early treatment. It spreads through contact with an infected person's bodily fluids.

최악의 에볼라 바이러스 창궐
올해 2월부터 서아프리카를 중심으로 확산된 에볼라 바이러스가 큰 우려를 불러 일으키고 있다.
세계보건기구(WHO)에 따르면 이번 에볼라 창궐로 감염자만 1,200명에 달하며 적어도 660명이 사망했다고 밝혔다. 이는 1976년 에볼라 바이러스가 발견된 이래 최악의 피해다.
안타깝게도 감염자 중 100여 명은 현지에서 진료 중이던 의료진이었으며 이중 절반 가량이 사망했다고 WHO가 밝혔다.
에볼라 바이러스에 감염되게 되면 이틀에서 3주간의 잠복기를 거쳐 발열이나 목감기, 근육통 및 두통의 증세를 보이다 출혈을 시작하게 되고 결국 사망에 이르게 된다고 한다. 에볼라 바이러스의 치사율은 최대 90퍼센트에 이른다고 알려져 있다.
