A man who beheaded a co-worker in Oklahoma, U.S., has been charged with murder and assault Tuesday.
Alton Alexander Nolen, 30, killed a co-worker and wounded another in a knife attack at a Vaughan Foods plant in Moore, an Oklahoma City suburb.
District Attorney Greg Mashburn said Nolen could potentially face the death penalty. He told a news conference, "It is highly likely that I will seek the death penalty."
According to Mashburn, Nolen, an African-American, and a co-worker named Traci Johnson had an argument about race. Nolen told her did not like white people, and Johnson complained to the human resources department, which suspended Nolen on the same day.
Mashburn said Nolen went home, got a large kitchen knife and returned to the plant, where he attacked Colleen Hufford, 54, from behind, killing her and severing her head, allegedly mumbling in Arabic.

Several co-workers said he had tried to convert them to become Muslims. His Facebook page shows a photo of Osama bin Laden.
Mashburn said the attack had more to do with the racial conflict than with Nolen's attempts to convert people.
Federal officials are viewing the attack more as workplace violence than terrorism. But some people say that because the attack happened after the extreme terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) beheaded two American journalists in Syria, the incident is linked to terrorism.

Meanwhile, CNN's "The Hour" anchorman John Berman is in hot water for using the phrase "any way you slice it" three times during his coverage of the accident.
Berman promptly tweeted an apology, but his followers have criticized him for his insensitivity.

직원간 다툼 끝에 식칼로 동료 참수
미국 오클라호마 주의 한 음식제조공장에서 한 직원이 인종문제로 불거진 동료와의 말다툼 끝에 동료 한 명을 참수시켜 살해한 사건이 월요일 발생했다.
흑인인 알톤 알렉산더 놀렌(30)은 지난 목요일 자신이 근무하는 오클라호마시티 외각의 무어에 위치한 본푸드플랜트에서 여성 동료인 트레이시 존슨에게 자신은 백인이 싫다고 말하는 등의 인종차별적 발언을 했다. 존슨은 인사부에 이 사실을 알려 놀렌을 당일 조기 귀가조치를 받게끔 했다.
회사의 조치에 불만을 품은 놀렌은 집에서 식칼을 가져와 지금껏 자신에게 인종적 모독을 했다고 판단되는 동료들에게 복수할 의지로 여성 동료 콜린 허포드를 공격해 목을 잘라 살해했다. 그는 이어 존슨의 목과 얼굴을 칼로 난자했으나 공장의 운영책임자 마크 본이 그의 팔을 총으로 쏘면서 사태는 일단락되었다. 존슨와 놀렌은 병원으로 옮겨졌으며 둘 다 건강에는 이상이 없는 것으로 알려졌다.
사건을 담당한 오클라호마시티 지방검사 그레그 메시번은 놀렌이 사형선고를 피하기 어려울 것이라고 밝혔다. 메시번은 허포드 살해 당시 아랍어로 중얼거렸던 것이 확인된 놀렌은 평소 동료들을 무슬림으로 개종시키려고 했으며 그의 페이스북도 오사마 빈 라덴의 사진을 포함 이슬람 문화로 도배되어 있었다고 덧붙였다. 놀렌의 살인은 현재 이라크와 시리아에서 이슬람독립국 건설 목적아래 지난 한 달간 두 명의 미국 기자를 참수한 ISIS를 연상시켜 논란이 되고 있다.
한편 놀렌의 사건을 보도한 CNN의 앵커 존 버남은 화요일 보도를 마무리하면서 남긴 코멘트에 사용된 용어가 적절치 않음에 대해 트위터로 공식 사과를 밝혔다. 버남은 문제의 코멘트를 통해 “(범인이) 어떻게 자르든지”의 의미의 자극적인 영어구절을 10초 안에 세 번이나 반복해 뉴스 시청자들의 공분을 샀다.
