Kim guided the combined drill of two Korean People's Army (KPA) units that included simulations of a coastal landing and attacks on enemy troops, said the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), monitored in Seoul. As is customary, the report did not disclose when the drill was conducted.
Kim guided the entire drill and was satisfied, the KCNA's English-language report said, quoting him as saying that "They are fighting well and no enemy troops would come to their senses when they are exposed to such attack."
The latest report follows Pyongyang's repeated protests against the unusually strong U.N. resolution on the North's human rights violations adopted last week, as well as a recent joint military drill by South Korean troops.
The resolution adopted by a U.N. committee calls for the referral of the North to the International Criminal Court for human rights violations.
The North has also criticized Seoul's Hoguk joint drill that involved all branches of South Korea's military. The North denounced the 12-day drill, which ended two days ago, as a cause of worsening inter-Korean ties.
The KCNA said Kim instructed his country's military to conduct frequent war rehearsals to be better prepared for modern warfare.
"I used to create circumstances all of a sudden any moment to personally organize and guide drills of units because the present drill is directly linked with the future fight and destiny of our country," Kim said during his guidance.
Kim also stressed the need to frequently stage such combined joint rehearsals "in order to bolster up the capability of units at various levels to conduct operations and improve the operation commanding ability of commanding officers by focusing main efforts on rounding off the close coordination among units of services and arms of the army and ensuring promptness, rapidity, unity and accuracy in combat actions," the KCNA said.
A number of high-ranking military officials accompanied Kim, including Hwang Pyong-so, the military's chief political officer, as well as Ri Yong-gil, chief of the KPA General Staff, the KCNA said. (Yonhap)

북한 김정은, 연합훈련 참관…'군종·병종간 협동'
북한 김정은 국방위원회 제1위원장이 연합협동훈련을 참관하고 각급 부대와 지휘관들의 작전지휘능력 향상을 강조했다고 조선중앙통신이 23일 보도했다.
중앙통신은 '김정은 동지께서 인민군 제572대연합부대와 제630대연합부대 관하 부대들의 연합협동훈련을 조직·지도했다'며 '김정은 동지께서는 감시소에 나가 훈련계획을 요해(파악)하고 훈련개시 명령을 하달했다'고 전했다.
연합합동훈련은 해상 수송집단의 해상이동과 상륙해안으로의 접근 때 상륙을 저지하는 적을 제압하는 방법을 먼저 판정하고 다음으로 특수작전부대가 상륙전투와 대상물 습격전투를 하는 방식으로 진행됐다.
북한의 이번 훈련은 남측에서 벌어지는 호국훈련에 대응한 것으로 보이며 최근 유엔에서 북한인권결의안이 채택된 것이 반발해 '초강경 대응전'을 호언하는 가운데 이뤄졌다.
이번 훈련은 김 제1위원장의 제안에 따라 연습 진행형식과 방법, 동원역량이 정해졌다. 중앙통신은 이번 훈련이 '새 연도 전투정치훈련에 진입하는 전군을 다시 한 번 각성시키고 훈련제일주의 기풍을 철저히 확립하는 데 목적을 뒀다'고 강조했다.
김 제1위원장은 훈련을 마치고 나서 앞으로도 불시에 훈련을 조직해 실시할 것이라고 밝히면서 '오늘 훈련과 같은 연합협동훈련을 자주 진행해 군종, 병종 부대들 사이의 긴밀한 협동을 완성하고 전투행동의 불의(불시)성과 신속성, 일치성과 정확성을 보장하는 데 주되는 힘을 넣어야 한다'고 말했다.
그러면서 '인민군대 안의 모든 부대에서는 고정격식화된 규범에만 매달려 훈련을 진행하지 말고 현대전에서 제기될 수 있는 여러 가지 정황을 설정하고 현실적인 훈련을 많이 진행해야 한다'라고 말했다.
김 제1위원장의 이날 훈련 참관에는 황병서 군 총정치국장, 리영길 군 총참모장, 오일정·한광상 노동당 부장 등이 수행했다.
