A Chinese illegal alien tried to rob a house and a taxi office in Seogwipo, Jeju Island, Monday morning, according to Seogwipo Police Station.

The man, 27, entered a house in the tourism hotspot island's southern city and threatened the resident, 57, with a sharp object. The man fled when the victim resisted.

The suspect, whose name has been withheld, then allegedly tried to rob a nearby taxi office, but fled when an employee yelled for help.

No one was injured.

Police caught the suspect in the city, where he lived, three hours later.

Police said the suspect, who did not have a valid visa to stay in Korea, claimed he was "too drunk to remember anything."

Police have requested an arrest warrant for attempted aggravated robbery.
