Kwak Noh-jung, CEO of SK hynix, was elected as the 28th president of the Korea Handball Federation, the organization said Tuesday.

The federation's election committee confirmed Kwak's election following a review of his candidacy. As the sole candidate, he was officially named president-elect after the committee's deliberation.

Kwak's four-year term will begin on Feb. 12, following the federation's regular general assembly. He will succeed Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, who served as president for five consecutive terms from the 23rd to the 27th presidency.

Born in 1965, Kwak graduated from Korea University and has held notable positions, including as a civilian member of the National Artificial Intelligence Committee and vice president of the Korean Academy of Engineering. He brings a wealth of experience in leadership and innovation to his new role in sports administration, the federation said.

The Korea Handball Federation plays a crucial role in promoting and developing handball in Korea, including fostering talent and organizing domestic and international competitions. Kwak's leadership is expected to guide the federation into its next phase of growth.

During his tenure, Chey played a key role in advancing the sport's profile both domestically and on the global stage. Kwak's appointment signifies the ongoing presence of SK-associated leadership within the federation.
