All of the 46 supporters of President Yoon Suk Yeol who were apprehended for violently storming the Seoul Western District Court that issued an arrest warrant for the impeached president last Sunday are facing formal arrests, prosecution officials said Tuesday.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors Office sought arrest warrants on Monday for the 46 people detained in connection with the courthouse violence during their protests against the formal arrest of Yoon, the officials said.
They are charged with breaking into the courthouse complex early Sunday morning and committing vandalism.
In addition, the prosecution applied for arrest warrants for 17 other individuals on charges of blocking a car carrying prosecutors and investigators in charge of Yoon's case, climbing over the walls of the courthouse or assaulting police officers on duty.
Police said Monday they apprehended a total of 90 people for illegal acts inside and outside the Seoul Western District Court over the weekend and will first seek arrest warrants for 66 of them.
Then the prosecution dismissed the police's arrest warrant requests for three of the 66 people, citing a need for additional investigation. Five suspects underwent arrest warrant hearings on the same day and the court approved formal arrests of two of them. (Yonhap)
