A heavy snow advisory was issued for Seoul at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the state weather agency said, with up to 8 centimeters of snow expected to additionally fall in the capital.

The advisory is issued when 5 or more centimeters of snow is expected to accumulate over 24 hours.

The weather agency forecast the snow to continue through Friday in the greater Seoul area, and parts of Gangwon and Chungcheong provinces, while possibly extending to Sunday on the southern island of Jeju.

Between 3 to 8 centimeters of snow was expected to fall in the greater Seoul area until Friday, the weather agency said, advising the public to beware of slippery roads with morning temperatures forecast between minus 15 degrees Celsius and 0 degree.

The Seoul metropolitan government has mobilized 4,926 officials and 1,318 pieces of equipment to clear the snow and inspect roads.

The city government also advised drivers to drive their vehicles at reduced speed and pedestrians to be aware of possible injuries. (Yonhap)
