Heavy snows have blanketed some parts of Korea, leaving 77 ferry services and two flights canceled, officials said Monday.

Strong winds also hit many parts of the country, leaving one dead.

Up to 50 centimeters of snow were forecast to fall in Gangwon Province, while heavy snows were also expected to pound other provinces, including Gyeonggi, North Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang, according to the interior ministry.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, 77 ferry services had been canceled and two flights at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul had been grounded.

Twelve national parks remained closed, according to the ministry, adding that there have been no reports of casualties.

Meanwhile, Korea's western, central and southern regions, including the central city of Daejeon, the southern city of Busan and the resort island of Jeju, were hit by strong winds of over 20 meters per second, prompting authorities to issue a strong wind advisory.

A man in his 70s fell to the ground from a factory roof while doing repair work amid strong winds in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died while receiving treatment.

More than 80 cases of facility damage were reported in Daejeon, South Chungcheong Province, Busan and Jeju combined, according to local governments. (Yonhap)
