Singer Joanne dies after car crash

Korean singer Joanne Lee has died at after a car accident that occurred in Los Angeles last month, Yonhap News Agency reported Tuesday.

The 26-year-old artist was reported to have been in a coma after the car crashed on November 26. The news was confirmed by a close member of the family.

After fighting for her life for almost a week, the singer died on Tuesday. Details of the accident were not immediately available.

Legally named Lee Yeon-ji, Joanne was once known as "The second BoA," in reference to recording artist BoA. Lee had attempted to get back in the K-pop game through audition program "Super Star K4" two years ago.

Lee Seung-hyun, Joanne's brother and an actor based in China, took to his Weibo account in memory of his sister.

"It was an amazing time being your brother for 26 years, thank you," he wrote Wednesday. "I love you, always."

Joanne's debut album "First Love" was released in 2001. The title track as well as the songs "A Sunny Day" and "Innocent" became hits.
