1) In an attempt to address safety concerns and 2) streamline bus operations, the Seoul Metropolitan Government 3) implemented a designated waiting spot system for a busy area with multiple bus stops across the street from Lotte Department Store in Myeong-dong.

버스 운영을 2) 간소화하고 안전 우려를 해결 1) 하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 서울시는 명동 롯데백화점 건너편 여러 정류장이 모여 있는 혼잡 구역에 지정 승차 구역을 3) 시행했다.

However, the system has so far resulted in severe 4) congestion during peak traffic hours as it only allows buses to pick up passengers in front of the designated spots for each bus route.

그러나 해당 제도는 지금까지 러시 아워에 심각한 교통 4) 혼잡을 야기했는데, 각 버스 노선마다 지정된 자리 앞에서만 승객을 태우게 하기 때문이다.

The area, servicing a total of 29 routes, sees around 9,500 passengers daily, according to the city government.

29개 노선이 운행되는 명동 지역은 하루 약 9,500명의 승객이 이용한다고 시는 전했다.

Previously, the area relied on a system where passengers formed lines according to the route numbers 5) marked on the 6) pavement.

The bus stops faced challenges as numerous routes and passengers crowded into a confined 35-meter long space. Intercity buses struggled to access their designated stops, often halting unpredictably before or after, leading to passenger pickups not happening at the allocated points.

지정 승차구역은 수많은 노선과 승객이 제한된 35m 길이의 구역으로 몰리자 극심한 혼란을 겪었다. 광역버스들은 지정된 지점에 정확히 서는데 어려움을 겪었고, 때로는 예상치 못하게 앞이나 뒤에 서면서 승객이 할당 지점이 아닌 곳에서 탑승하기도 했다.
