The climate card, an all-inclusive monthly transit pass offering access to all bus routes and subway lines in Seoul, will be available for use on the Gimpo Goldline subway line starting March 30, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Monday.

The announcement came three months after the two cities signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on transportation. This marks the first expansion of the climate card covering an area outside of the capital. It is currently in talks to expand the card's use to Incheon, as well as the Gyeonggi Province cities of Gwacheon and Gunpo in addition to Gimpo.

Authorities believe it will reduce the economic burden of Gimpo residents who regularly commute to Seoul.

"We will do our utmost to expand our service to the greater Seoul area and allow more citizens to use the Climate Card," a Seoul Metropolitan Government official said.

The climate card was introduced by Seoul in January. The pass enables unlimited access to all bus routes and subway lines in the city, including the public bike-sharing service known as Ttareungyi, for a monthly fee of 65,000 won ($48.70), or 62,000 won without the bike service.

The rechargeable transit pass is available in the form of both plastic card and a mobile app, but the mobile service is limited to Android devices due to technical issues. The card can be purchased for 3,000 won at any subway station including Gimpo International Airport Station on Seoul Metro lines 5 and 9, the Airport Express, Gimpo Goldline and the Seohae Line.
