The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul is set to host an extraordinary zoo-themed event, completely devoid of real animals, from May 3 to 6.

The Seoul Design Foundation announced, Monday, its plans for the Design Zoo as part of an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of DDP. This unique zoo-themed event, timed to coincide with May, known as the month of family gatherings, will feature a variety of attractions and activities centered around animal themes.

The Design Zoo will be located at DDP Oullim Square, providing a unique experience for families and children, especially allowing children to run around freely.

The square will host animal-designed rides inspired by popular creatures like giraffes and lions, offering a playful environment for kids to enjoy. Visitors can participate in programs focused on creating animal-themed sculptures and experiencing animal play activities.

Additionally, musical performances including animal-themed classical, Korean traditional music and character concerts are scheduled to be held at DDP's grass hill. Character parades featuring performers in animal masks will also take place.

Several companies known for their animal-themed branding will join the event, offering AR experiences, photo zones and various activities featuring their iconic animal characters.

KT Genie TV Kids Land, known among children for its beloved animal characters, and Nongshim, a food and beverage company recognized for its raccoon-themed branding, are set to host engaging events for attendees during the event.

Hyundai Department Store Duty Free, which is taking the leading role in the campaign to protect abandoned dogs, plans to promote an adoption campaign for the upcoming event. It also plans to promote an environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG)-oriented campaign.

The event will also feature performances by renowned orchestras like the KBS Symphony Orchestra and the KBS Traditional Music Orchestra, performing music related to animals. These performances are scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 3 and 7 p.m. on May 6, the opening and closing days of the event.

Advance reservations for the Design Zoo can be made through a reservation system of Naver until Thursday, and on-site registration will be available during the whole event period. Participation in each program is free.

Detailed information about the festival's offerings can be found at ddp.or.kr.
