"Solo Leveling," the webtoon (online comics) that recorded 14.3 billion views and achieved unprecedented success across the world, is once again aiming to captivate the global market with a webtoon adaptation of its spin-off, "Solo Leveling: Ragnarok."

Kakao Entertainment said Wednesday that it will release the webtoon spin-off sequal to its popular webtoon "Solo Leveling," on its webtoon and web novel platform KakaoPage and webtoon-dedicated platform Kakao Webtoon from Aug. 1.

Written by Daul, the "Solo Leveling" franchise first started as a web novel in 2016. The franchise gained explosive popularity not only in Korea but also among global readers when its webtoon version was released in 2018.

The franchise, which has also been adapted into a video game and an animation series, expanded its universe last year with the spin-off web novel.

"Solo Leveling" centers around the protagonist Sung Jin-woo, who works as a hunter catching monsters in a world suddenly changed by the appearance of monsters, while its spin-off "Solo Leveling: Ragnarok" focuses on Sung's son, Su-ho.

The spin-off, backed by its outstanding quality and enthusiastic fan response, soon became a work read by over 1 million readers and also topped the 2023 KakaoPage's web novel ranking of newly launched works in the fantasy genre.

For the webtoon version of the spin-off, writer Dangdo will be in charge of the story, while cartoonist Jin will draw the illustrations, Kakao Entertainment said.

The company anticipates the webtoon launch will again draw significant attention to the "Solo Leveling" universe, which is already active globally through web novels, webtoons, animation and games.

"We put a lot of effort into creating the webtoon to capture the eyes and hearts of readers," the story writer and the cartoonist of the webtoon version said. "Please look forward to the exciting growth stories of the characters, including Sung Su-ho, as well as the increasingly spectacular action scenes with each episode."
