The upcoming Disney+ series "No Way Out: The Roulette" will raise questions about how society should deal with issues that defy simple legal resolutions, the cast of the new series said Wednesday.

The eight-episode drama, which will be released on Disney+ worldwide and Uplus Mobile TV here, follows the story of Kim Kook-ho (Yoo Jae-myung), a notorious felon who is recently released from prison. The plot thickens when a mysterious figure offers a bounty of 2 billion won ($14.4 million) for Kim's death, setting off a tense narrative of survival and moral dilemmas.

Actor Cho Jin-woong plays detective Baek Joong-sik, who is tasked with protecting Kim, while Kim Moo-yul portrays attorney Lee Sang-bong, the criminal's legal representative. Yum Jung-ah plays An Myeong-ja, mayor of the fictional Hosan City.

Cho's detective character is conflicted by the task of protecting the felon. The actor said this series will spark various debates among viewers.

"There are clearly points that can't be resolved by law. I think the drama series sharply pinpoints that matter," Cho said during a press conference in Seoul, adding that the character he plays is a realistic detective that can be seen around us.

Yoo added, "I think our drama expresses the helplessness of everyone wanting to find a way out but not seeing an exit at every moment."

Yum also said the drama is about two-faced characters who are involved in a public murder-for-hire case for their own gain.

"An Myeong-ja is a character with duality. I had a lot of concerns because I had to express emotions that change each time," Yum said.

"No Way Out: The Roulette" was initially planned to star the late Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in "Parasite," as detective Baek. However, due to allegations of drug use last year, Lee decided to withdraw from the drama before filming began, leading Cho to step in and take over his role.

Cho expressed his desire to work hard for Lee's sake as well.

"I want to say that participating in this drama was like any other project, but it wasn't," he said. "There was great sadness. However, I thought I should contribute more rather than just dwelling on that, so I wanted to do well. I approached this work with the mindset of doing as much as I could, enough for his share, too."

Other cast members include Sung Yoo-bin, who plays the felon's son; Lee Kwang-soo as Yoon Chang-jae, a butcher trying to earn big money by killing the criminal; Kim Sung-choel as a pastor and Taiwanese actor Hsu Kuang-han as a killer who also tries to kill the criminal.

The new drama series will be available on the streaming platforms from July 31.
