The 10th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities is scheduled to take place at Seoul's Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from Sept. 25 to 27.
The event is expected to draw around 1,000 participants, including mayors from 50 cities and representatives from international organizations, aiming to exchange policies and strategies aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles.
This year's general meeting celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC), established in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). It will be the first large-scale in-person gathering in six years, following the 8th meeting in Malaysia in 2018.
Seoul will serve as the host and chair for the event, marking the first time the city has led an international conference on health.
More than 100 organizations and 1,000 participants, including mayors from 50 cities and representatives from international organizations, are expected to attend, focusing on the theme "Smarter and Healthier Cities for a Better Future."
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will showcase the city's innovative health policies at the conference, including the Wrist Doctor 9988, a comprehensive digital health care initiative that engages over 1.2 million residents.
He will also highlight the Garden City Project, designed to ensure that everyone can access green spaces within a five-minute walk, and the Climate Card, an unlimited transit pass aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions while alleviating public transportation costs.
The event will feature a range of programs, including a global health leaders forum and a session led by university students from around the world.
On the final day, participating cities will adopt and announce the Seoul Declaration, which emphasizes intergenerational solidarity and global health equity. This declaration outlines eight key commitments, underscoring the role of cities in fostering global health and resilience.
"The conference will highlight the renewed importance of healthy cities in the post-pandemic era and showcase Seoul's advanced smart health care initiatives to a global audience," said Kim Tae-hee, head of the Citizens' Health Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
"This meeting will facilitate the exchange of outstanding health policies among cities and bolster international collaboration to build a sustainable future."
