Police on Wednesday were attempting to detain the acting chief of the Presidential Security Service (PSS) for allegedly obstructing investigators from taking President Yoon Suk Yeol into custody.

Police presented a warrant to detain PSS Deputy Chief Kim Seong-hoon on suspicion of special obstruction of public duty as investigators attempted to detain Yoon for the second time at the presidential residence in central Seoul.

Kim faces accusations of leading efforts to block investigators from executing a warrant for Yoon's detention over his short-lived imposition of martial law in their first attempt on Jan. 3.

The security service's internal communications with Kim are reportedly currently cut off. (Yonhap)
