The city government in Seoul will set up temporary outdoor libraries at Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square and Cheonggye Stream as part of its efforts to promote Korean literature to book lovers from other countries.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Thursday, it plans to display 693 translated books of Korean authors at the three outdoor libraries over the next two months.

The exhibition, launched on Thursday with donated books from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, features Han Kang's "The Vegetarian," which won the Man Booker International Prize in 2016, as well as several other literary works that have garnered international attention in recent years.

Copies of 59 Korean novels translated into 33 different languages, including English, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic and Greek, are on display.

"Mothers" by Ma Young-shin, "Do Not Bid Farewell" by Han Kang, "Our Happy Time" by Gong Ji-young and "Seven Years' Night" by Jeong Yu-jeong, which won awards for foreign literature, are among the books displayed at Seoul Plaza.

The library installed at Gwanghwamun includes award-winning works such as "The Vegetarian" and Kim Young-ha's "The Diary of a Murderer."

Best-selling Korean novels such as "School Nurse Ahn Eun-young" by Jeong Se-rang, "My Brilliant Life" by Kim Ae-ran, "Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop" by Hwang Bo-reum and "Almond" by Son Won-pyeong are among those at the Cheonggye Stream section.

The exhibition will be held for 60 days. More information about the event is available on the Seoul Outdoor Library's Instagram.

"This exhibition will serve as an opportunity to closely inform foreign tourists visiting Seoul about the globalization trend of our literature," said Oh Ji-eun, head of Seoul Metropolitan Library.
