Chung Yong-jin, chairman of Korean retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, was set to meet with Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, at the president-elect's Florida resort this week, the group said Wednesday.

Chung is visiting the Mar-a-Lago resort Tuesday and Wednesday (U.S. time) to meet with Donald Trump Jr., according to the Korean conglomerate.

His U.S. visit was scheduled months earlier at the invitation from Trump Jr., a company spokesperson told Yonhap News over the phone.

The two are expected to discuss business and various other issues during their meeting at the resort, the spokesperson added.

Trump Jr. and Chung have already met three times this year during the former's trips to Korea for official and unofficial events, according to the spokesperson.

During his two-day visit to the Florida resort, Chung may have a chance to come across the president-elect, his wife, Melania Trump, or Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who reportedly are staying at the resort.

Should Chung happen to run into Donald Trump, he will be the first Korean business leader to have met the president-elect since his election last month.

Trump has tapped Musk as one of the co-leaders of the new Department of Government Efficiency that will be created when Trump takes office in January and tasked with trimming federal spending.

Industry watchers here have noted Chung may serve as a mediator between Korean business circles and Trump's transition team based on his friendship with Trump Jr. (Yonhap)
