The central regions were hit by several centimeters of snow on Wednesday, leading to multiple traffic accidents on slippery roads, and flight delays and cancellations.

The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy snow advisory for northern Gyeonggi Province, southern Gangwon Province, the central province of North Chungcheong and the southeastern province of North Gyeongsang as of 9 a.m., forecasting accumulations of 3 to 8 centimeters.

In Seoul, less than one centimeter of snow fell in the morning and many car crashes were reported on snowy roads, though there were no casualties. The Korea Railroad said it will operate additional subway trains in the capital area during commuting hours.

According to the Korea Airports Corp., 16 of 601 flights scheduled for the day nationwide were canceled due to bad weather as of 8 a.m. Eight flights scheduled to depart from the southern Jeju Island were canceled, followed by three in the central city of Cheongju and two at Gimpo International Airport. A total of 13 flights, including two international flights, were delayed, the corporation added.

At Incheon International Airport, the gateway to Seoul, 10 flights were delayed as of 7 a.m., though there were no cancellations. (Yonhap)
