Korea Grabs Four Golds in Archery

South Korea grabbed four gold medals in archery at the Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia, Sunday (KST).

Korean women's national team archer Kim Ye-seul clinched gold, edging out compatriot Kim Yu-mi in a shoot-off in the women's individual recurve. Both Koreans tied at 112 during regular shooting, but Kim Ye-seul got 10 in the extended play, while Kim Yu-mi notched nine.

Seok Ji-hyun added another gold for the nation, beating Victoria Balzhanova of Russia 114-108 in the women's individual compound.

On the team recurve, both of Korea's men's and women's teams topped the podium, defeating Taiwan and Ukraine, respectively.

The men's team of Kim Seong-hoon, Park Hee-jae, and Kim Jae-hyeong, edged out Taiwan 23-21. The women's team of Chang Hye-jin, Kim Yu-mi, Kim Ye-seul crushed Ukraine 21-14.

Kim Ye-seul, who notched a gold at the mixed team recurve, recorded a total of three gold medals in at the Universiade.

In judo, South Korea's men's team clinched the gold medal, beating Russia in the final. However, the women's team settled for silver in a loss to Japan.

In swimming, Kim Dal-eun earned a silver, touching the pad in 31.57 seconds, 0.02 seconds behind Russian Daria Deeva at the women's 50-meter breaststroke finals. Kim's silver is South Korea's only medal in swimming.

On Saturday, Korea's women's football team grabbed the gold crushing Japan 4-1 in the final, Korea's first-ever gold in the event. The team's best result had been a bronze medal at the Beijing Universiade in 2001.

Ji So-yun was honored as the Most Valuable Player event, and striker Jeon Ga-eul was the top scorer with 12 goals.

South Korea is ranked fourth at the Universiade with 20 gold, 11 silver, and 15 bronze medals as of Sunday (KST). Russia is ranked first with 26 gold medals, followed by China with 21 and Japan with 20.
