| The event derives from Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) when the crops were cultivated from a rice paddy inside the royal palace to wish for successful rice reaping throughout the country each year. |
| Changuijeong, at the rear of the royal palace and closed to public throughout the year, except for the annual reaping and planting seasons, is administered by the Changdeokgung Palace Office. The authority oversees rice transplanting in spring and in fall the weaving of rice stalks for roofing for Changuijeong, the only grass-roofed house in the palace. |
