Close to 160 T'way Air passengers were stranded in Vietnam for 11 hours as the pilot lost his passport and faced restricted access to the airport in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the carrier, Monday.

The flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Incheon was scheduled to depart at 10:35 p.m. Friday, but couldn't take off until 9:40 a.m. the following day.

According to T'way Air, the delay occurred as the pilot lost his passport and it took time for the carrier to arrange a replacement.

Currently, the airline is conducting an investigation into the exact cause of the incident including how and where the pilot lost his passport.

"We are currently reviewing disciplinary action for the pilot. We are also negotiating compensation with the passengers," a T'way Air official said, adding the company provided the passengers with hotel lodging and breakfast during the delay.
