Netflix's Spanish crime series "Money Heist" ― originally titled "La Casa de Papel" ― which garnered huge popularity worldwide, will be remade in Korea.

The streaming giant said Tuesday that the Korean adaptation of the show is set to begin production.

The remake will be led by director Kim Hong-sun, who has a record of making cinematic series including OCN's "Voice" and "Son: The Guest." Scriptwriter Ryu Yong-jae, who was behind Netflix's original "My Holo Love" and tvN crime comedy "Psychopath Diary," will write the series.

The Korean version of "Money Heist" will follow a similar storyline as the original series, which revolves around a group of criminals carrying out a major heist planned by a mastermind.

Alex Pina, the creator of the original series, expressed excitement about the remake, saying: "I'm thrilled to see the story taking place in Korea.

"Korean content, for years, has caught the eye of audiences across borders with its unique storytelling and culture, like how 'La Casa de Papel' captured global audiences. For those reasons, I'm fascinated by the potential the Korean adaptation has."

Netflix will announce the title of the remake, cast lineup and detailed schedule soon.
