U.S. aviation giant Boeing said Sunday it is currently "in contact" with Jeju Air following the deadly crash of one of the airline's Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the southwestern county of Muan.

"We are in contact with Jeju Air regarding flight 2216 and stand ready to support them," the company said in a statement. "We extend our deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones, and our thoughts remain with the passengers and crew."

A Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Jeju Air crashed at Muan International Airport, 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul, earlier in the day, with all but two of the 181 people on board presumed dead. (Yonhap)
