NCT WISH, the latest addition to SM Entertainment's roster, is set to make waves in both the Korean and Japanese music scenes with its debut track "WISH." Comprising members Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya, NCT WISH is the final subunit of SM's iconic act, NCT.

Emerging from the survival program "NCT Universe: LASTART," the group debuted last month at the SMTOWN LIVE 2024 concert held at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

On Monday, the members of NCT WISH graced a press event at Blue Square Mastercard Hall in central Seoul's Yongsan District to commemorate their debut, radiating excitement for their musical journey ahead.

Leader Sion shared the group's vision of becoming beacons of dream and inspiration through their music.

"Just as people gaze at the night sky in search of a star to make a wish, we aspire to become musical icons for our fans," he said.

With four out of its six members hailing from Japanese backgrounds, NCT WISH is uniquely positioned to foster a deeper connection between the Korean and Japanese music scenes, reflecting the members' personal journeys and inspirations from K-pop.

Yushi, sporting charming pink hair, revealed that his desire to become a Korean star was greatly influenced by his K-pop-loving sister. Similarly, Riku and Sakuya credited their parents' love for K-pop as their source of inspiration.

Ryo shared his story of being scouted by the Korean entertainment giant while attending an NCT 127 concert.

Another standout feature of the group is the involvement of BoA, a celebrated veteran artist of SM renowned in both Korea and Japan, who has been appointed to guide the rookie group's activities across borders.

The esteemed singer also appeared at Monday's press event, expressing her deep affection for the group.

"My heart naturally gravitated towards them, considering this group consists of members I personally selected. Also, recalling my experiences shuttling between Korea and Japan, I decided to participate in producing to help them achieve similar success," BoA shared.

The rookies also received heartfelt support from senior members of NCT, namely Jaehyun and Doyoung from NCT 127, who took a special interest in their development.

"Jaehyun approached us in the waiting room and extended his congratulations on our debut," Ryo recalled.

Sion chimed in, "Doyoung also visited us frequently and treated us to meals. He emphasized that the pre-debut period would be the most memorable of all, so we endeavored to cherish those moments to the fullest."

The group's debut song, "WISH," blends old-school hip-hop elements with energetic hooks and poignant vocals, setting the stage for NCT WISH's promising journey in the K-pop landscape.

The music video for "WISH" is also something to look out for, showcasing NCT WISH members transforming into clumsy yet endearing cupids.

As the final unit under the extensive NCT umbrella, NCT WISH is determined to forge its distinct path in the competitive music industry. Sion highlighted the group's allure, which distinguishes it from other NCT units.

"Our unique strength lies in the childlike positivity and pure energy that exudes from us. Our objective is to showcase this distinctive energy in our authentic way," he emphasized.

The leader also did not forget to mention the team's aspiration for public recognition.

"We aim to attain the Rookie of the Year award this year," Sion concluded.
