To celebrate Hangeul Day (Oct. 9), actress Song Hye-kyo and professor Seo Kyung-duk donated 10,000 Korean-French guidebooks on the historic sites of Korea's independence fighters there to the Korean Cultural Center in Paris.

The guidebooks provide information about Seo Young-hae (1902-56) ― a Korean independence fighter who was active in Paris ― and historic sites related to the country's independence struggle against Japan, according to the center Friday.

Hangeul Day commemorates the promulgation of the Korean alphabet Hangeul in 1446.

"I heard that many French people visit the center thanks to effect of hallyu," Seo, a professor at Sungshin Women's University and an active promoter of Korea, said. "I hope the books can give a little help in promoting that part of the Korean history."

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the condition of our historic sites abroad is not very good. So I think we have to pay more attention to them."

Song and Seo have contributed guidebooks for Korea-related sites and other meaningful Korea-related items across the world over the past nine years. In July, the two donated 10,000 Korean-English guidebooks to the Korean National Association in Los Angeles.
