Korean-American snowboarder Chloe Kim, 14, on Saturday became the youngest gold medalist at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

Kim surpassed the reigning champion, Kelly Clark, considered the best female snowboarder of all time, on her final run in the halfpipe final.

Kim scored 92 points on that run, surpassing Clark's score of 90. Two-time Olympic medalist Torah Bright was third.

Clark, Kim's idol, is a three-time Olympic medalist. Kim was too young to qualify for the Sochi Olympics. But the Korean-American won't have that problem in 2014, when the games are held in PyeongChang.

The victory didn't come without some bumps. Kim fell during a practice run, chipping her tooth.

"My face kind of hurts right now," Kim told ESPN after the win.

Clark was full of support for Kim and other young American snowboarders.

"In years to come, I'll be able to look at women's snowboarding and know that not only is it in good hands, but it's in the hands of someone I'm proud of," Clark said before the competition, USA Today reported.
