A dead megamouth shark ㅡ a very rare species of shark ㅡ was found this week by fishermen in the Philippines.

The 15-foot shark was found in the Burias Pass between the Albay and Masbate provinces of central Philippines.

Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines said that less than 70 megamouth sharks have ever been spotted.

The cause of death was unknown. The ultra-rare species was first discovered in 1976. Because they live in very deep waters, they are rarely spotted, though some wash up on the coasts of the Philippines, Japan and Taiwan.
