Yun Sung-bin wrote history in the skeleton Friday, winning Korea's first-ever silver medal at the world championships.

Yun finished four runs in 3 minutes 29.97 seconds at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Championships in Igls, Austria, to finish in second place with Russian Alexander Tretiakov. The gold went to Latvian Martins Dukurs.

"I want to thank my coaches and teammates who have guided and supported me since I was named to the national team," Yun said. "It has scared me at times to think that people may think that the medals I win are my achievements alone when they are actually the achievements of all of the team and our coaches. I did make a few mistakes, but overall, I'm pleased with the results."

Yun is the first Asian to win a medal at the skeleton world championships. Japanese Kazuhiro Koshi in 2003 finished fourth at Nagano, Japan.

Yun will next compete at the IBSF World Cup event in Konigssee, Germany, next Saturday.
