The Gyeonggi Province education office has ordered foreign schools to dismiss students embroiled in an admissions fraud scandal.

They include a Chinese school in Uijeongbu, another Chinese school in Suwon and three English schools in Suwon. No other details were revealed. A total of 31 students face dismissal under the direction.

In 2015, a Chinese school in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, was found to have admitted 24 students illegally, a Chinese school in Suwon admitted one, while five students were admitted at three English schools in Suwon. More schools and students were exposed last year.

To enter a Chinese or English school, at least one of the student's parents has to be non-Korean or the student has lived abroad for more than three years.

"While the students did not meet the basic requirement, the schools admitted them knowing this," a Gyeonggi education official said.
