North Korea claims it has successfully conducted a test of a hydrogen bomb that can be loaded onto its inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICMB).

In an "important" announcement at 3:30 p.m., North Korea said it carried out the sixth nuclear test at 12:00 p.m. (Pyongyang Time), calling it a "perfect success."

The Korean Central News Agency said the test, which took place at 12 p.m., was carried out to "examine and confirm the accuracy and credibility" of its technology.

The announcement came about three hours after two powerful artificial tremors were detected at the reclusive state's nuclear test site in Punggye-ri, Kilju, North Hamgyung Province, which were byproducts of the North's sixth nuclear test.
