The Forth Industrial Revolution will present a significant growth opportunity for battery makers as the importance of batteries featuring hyper-connectivity will be strengthened, according to Samsung SDI CEO Jun Young-hyun.

Jun made these remarks during a ceremony to mark the firm's 48th anniversary at the company's office in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Friday. The anniversary was Sunday.

The CEO of the battery-making unit of the nation's largest conglomerate said things, humans and spaces are all connected through networks in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, meaning everything will need power sources. This will become an opportunity for the growth of the battery industry.

"Sustainable growth will only exist in the ecosystem that gains trust and satisfaction from various interest groups," he said. "We need to seek harmonious growth by expanding communication channels."

Jun said that distinguished technical skills, excellent talent and more innovative organizational culture are key tasks for the company to grab opportunities for the growth to stay ahead of its competitors.

He stressed that the innovative organizational culture will help individuals develop their creativity and executive ability further.

As part of the events to mark its founding anniversary, the firm has been conducting various volunteer activities from the middle of June.

On June 26, CEO Jun and other employees visited a childcare center in Yongin and participated in the opening ceremony for an IT education center, dubbed "Dream Academy," set up with the firm's donations.

The seven square-meter academy that has nine desktops, a laptop and a projector will help about 50 children in the center study IT-related courses and receive certificates, the firm said.

Jun began the donations last December when he decided to donate his prize money to foster the younger generation, and the employees of the company joined hands.

"I hope the Dream Academy will be a place in which our children can meet the new world and dream for the future," Jun said during the opening ceremony.

The firm said its employees from six establishments nationwide will carry out a variety of volunteer activities until the middle of this month, including fundraising and donating talent.
